In the all-Russian Recurve final a strong start by Natalya Erdyniyeva looked under attack when Inna Sepanova won the third and fourth sets. However, Erdyniyeva pulled back in the final set to win gold, 6-4. An early draw in the bronze final didn't stop Begunhan Elif Unsal of Turkey from beating Justyna Mospinek of Poland 7-3 for a place on the podium. In the Compound event it was another Russian, Viktoria Balzhanova who prevailed 6-2 over Gladys Willems of Belgium. To complete the set of five women's medals for an ecstatic Russian delegation, Albina Loginova had a simiarly triumphant win in the bronze final, leaving Andrea Weihe of Germany behind to win 6-2.

The match began with two draws but in the end Girouille pulled ahead to win 6-4. Markiyan Ivashko of Ukraine took the third spot after holding Florian Floto of Germany to a 7-3 score in the bronze final.
Frangilli's and Vandionant's interviews
13:20 Saturday 29 May 2010
Your impressions about the new Archery facility in RoveretoFrangilli: "This is a great infrastructure for archery and definitely good enough for such a big event as an European Championship, perhaps one among the most complete of the world. I really have to congratulate those who made it possible. Each aspect of the sport has been taken into consideration, and maybe something more. Many have been genuinely impressed by it".
Vandionant: "The competition field is good. If I have to find a drawback it could be the wind that prevented us from having perfect conditions, but being able to perform in windy conditions is part of the skill that great archers must have. The building is fantastic, including also a wide indoor hall and all the facilities needed to prepare well. Overall it is great".
Has the technical level of the competition been very high?
Frangilli: "I think so because, despite the irregular wind that annoyed most people, overall there have been medium/high scores, and yesterday it was even raining. For us athletes quick changes in weather condition always give us problems but the level is getting higher and higher".
Vandionant: "I reckon that as in others categories the level is increasing and even during non perfect conditions the performances remained very high. There is more competition."
Are you satisfied with your performance?
Frangilli: "Yes, I reached both the individual and the team final; it could go hardly better than this. I can only improve on it by winning...".
Vandionant: "I can't really be satisfied by my performance; I got sent off in the third round and as a team we couldn't win against Russia. It has definitely not been a good Championship for me. I have got a lot of work to do".
What do you think about the new set system introduced by the FITA in the elimination round?
Frangilli: "The duration has increased. But at least now both opponents have more possibilities to pass regardless of their starting position. It allows you to make mistakes and to fix them. Let's see if it will be able to get more interest from the general public."
Vandionant: "I like it because this rule introduces more competion; each set is a competiotion independent from the others that begins with zero points every time whether if you shoot well or badly in the previous one. You can't take anything for granted. Each end is a real fight and I like it."

16:15 Friday 28 May 2010
The Ukraine Recurve team's hopes of making it to the final were dashed this afternoon by the Germans, who put in a solid performance to win 140-137. Yet another disappointment this afternoon for Great Britain who also crashed out to a confident Italy, who seem laid back about their chances in the final. In the Compound semi final second seed Denmark continued their relentless progress, taking out Slovenia 153-149. However, between them and gold stand Sweden who, despite being 9th ranked, are looking formidable after a 149-146 victory over Belgium.
It looks like more hot action for the finals. With most of the competition behind them, all four teams have arguably their biggest challenge yet to come...
Mixed Quarter Finals
15:56 Friday 28 May 2010
In the Compound event, a lot of suprises. Of the four winning teams, all except Denmark were ranked lower than the team they beat. Denmark themselves only won by shoot-off after drawing 150-150 with Russia.Belgium also drew with the Netherlands 147-147 but prevailed in a shoot-off. They will meet Sweden, who beat favourites Great Britain for a 149-145 win. Happiest of all must be 14th ranked Slovenia who are on a roll, beating Spain 150-147 for their slot in the semis.
There was arguably less tension the Recurve event with three of the top four seeds progressing to the semi final round. Italy and Great Britain won by margins of 7 each and Germany sniped Ireland by 11 points.
Favourites Russia were looking strong with the best score in this round.. except for their rivals Ukraine who pulled ahead by one point with 151. Ukraine will now meet Germany to decide who goes through to the final.
Compound Mixed 1/8
15:22 Friday 28 May 2010
Some very close matches in this first elimination round. Three of the top four seeds won by only three or fewer points, putting Great Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands into the quarter finals. However, Italy crashed out to 14th seeds Slovenia in a tightly fought 153-152 showdown.Russia, Belgium and Sweden will join them in the next round but the most impressive margin was delivered by Spain who romped home 7 points ahead of better-ranked France 149-142.
Recurve Mixed 1/8
15:11 Friday 28 May 2010
This new event got off to a good start with some excellent shooting from all teams. Three of the top four seeds (Russia, Italy and Germany) cruised through with score differences of 10 or more with Great Britain also securing their next round place with a margin of 5 against Denmark. The closest score difference was the Netherlands' two point victory over Spain, 140-138. They will join Poland, Ireland and Ukraine in the quarter finals.Live streaming from Rovereto

Compound Team Semi Finals
12:19 Friday 28 May 2010
All the Semis were very tight all the way to the line but in the end the women's Belgian team knocked favourites Great Britain for six with a tight 231-229 victory. This means Gladys Willems will now compete in both the individual and team finals, a result with which the whole Belgian delegation must be thrilled.Local team Italy will meet Belgium in the ladies' final after knocking Russia out with a more convincing 230-223.
In the Men's competition, twelfth seed Russia must be celebrating after a tense match which ended with them edging out higher-ranked Slovenia 228-227 to win a prestigious place in the final. They are now up against the Dutch team who had a similarly hard task seeing off Italy 234-223.
The finals should be exciting with both second seeds outlasting their corresponding favourites to meet lower ranked teams. The biggest shock could be the plucky Russian men who have surpassed all expectation. But are their Dutch rivals up to the challenge? Only time - and some sharp shooting - will tell.
Compound Teams - 1/4
11:58 Friday 28 May 2010
Always great sporting rivals, it was exciting to see Great Britain and Germany clash in the women's competition this morning but in the end it was the former who prevailed 223-215. Belgium and Russia both go through, which could mean we are on course to see Gladys Willems and Viktoria Balzhanova clash in the final of both the individual and team events. It's far from a certainty however; Belgium are drawn against Great Britain and Russia will be up against the Italian girls who are looking strong after their victory against Spain. In the men's competition we also see Italy in the Semi Finals, sneaking past Denmark by a single point. They will meet the Dutch team who breezed past Switzerland with a margin of 6. As in the women's competition, Russia have also made the next round but after being much lower seeded than the girls they are already ahead of expectation. Will they go all the way? Not if Slovenia can help it; they're ranked higher and are on top form after knocking favourites Great Britain out of the competition in a tight 231-230 triumph.
There's everything to play for as the semis get underway.
Compound Men's Teams - 1/8
11:43 Friday 28 May 2010
This first elimination round brought few surprises with all the top four seeds going through. Switzerland held Germany to a 228 draw, then edged them out in a tense shoot-off. 12 seeds Russia, however, must be pleased with thier 228-224 win over 5th seed France, although it now pits them against the even higher-ranked Sweden in the next round. The weather continues to be bright and sunny for the TV cameras and we are all enjoying an exciting morning's competition.

Recurve Men - Semi Finals
18:20 Thursday 27 May 2010
31st seed Florian Floto's astonishing straight set win in the Quarter Final seems suddenly hollow as he, in turn, was despatched in similar style by confident favourite Michele Frangilli. Frangilli now looks forward to meeting Romain Girouille who also tapped his opponent Markiyan Ivashko for a 6-0 win before retiring for the day. They will meet in the final for a chance to win gold but Ivashko and Floto have no time to lick their wounds - there is a chance for redemption as they will meet each other in the next round to see who gets bronze.
Compound Women Semi Finals
18:12 Thursday 27 May 2010
Andrea Weihe fought hard, drawing two sets, but it was Viktoria Balzhanova who took two more to win 6-2 and secure a place in the finals. She will meet Gladys Willems who had a similarly challenging time securing victory against Albina Loginova. So after a competition of upsets, in the end our 4th and 2nd seeds will compete for a chance to be champion, while it is the 6th and 17th who will clash for the bronze.
Compound Women Quarter Finals
17:54 Thursday 27 May 2010
The only comfortable win here was from Albina Loginova, who breezed past her opponent Laura Longo in straight sets. She may not fare so well against second seed Gladys Willems who, depsite drawing two sets, still beat Nicky Hunt convincingly 6-2.Andrea Weihe had a similarly good match against Anne Lantee, managing to clinch it in the end with 6-4. Her next challenge is Viktoria Blazhanova who edged out Camilla Soemod after drawing in two sets but winning three more.
Roll on the Semi Finals!
Recurve Men - Quarter Finals
17:45 Thursday 27 May 2010
Michele Frangilli is, amazingly, the only top 10 seed in the Semi Finals but Mark Nesbitt didn't make it easy for him, holding him to 5-5 before losing the shoot-off. Frangilli will next meet Florian Floto, who ended Andres Gomes' run for the final in straight sets.Romain Girouille clinched another tight victory against Viktor Ruban in a shoot-off and he must now worry about Markiyan Ivashko who beat Daniel Morillo to 6-4 and will see him in their semi final match.
The Semis are already under way and it looks to be an exciting race to the finish!
Women's Compound 1/8
17:19 Thursday 27 May 2010
Camilla Soemod of Denmark continues her domination with another straight-set win against Austrain Silvia Barckholt. Her only worry? Meeting Viktoria Balzhanova of Russia who saw off Teresa Ronco of Spain in a close 4-2 match. Italian Laura Longo is on course after a close 4-2 win against Michele Massina of Belgium and she will meet Albina Loginova who must feel confident after her 4-0 result against local Eugenia Salvi.UK girl Nicky Hunt stays in the competition after a straight set victory over French counterpart Sandrine Vandionant. Her next challenge, the formidable Gladys Willems of Belgium who put in a similarly impressive performance against Angeliki Giannopoulou of Greece to win 4-0.
Finnish Anne Lantee beat Inge Van Casple of the Nethernlands in an exciting shoot-off after three close sets. She would have met British top seed Andrea Gales in the next round but, in the biggest shock of this round, she was narrowly beaten to the Quarter Finals by German Andrea Weihe, despite her opponent being ranked 17th at the start of the competition.
